All About OatmealOatmeals in Greenwich Village Puts A Fun Spin on Healthy Snacks
WHERE: 120 West Third Street
PRICES: start at $3.50 for a small bowl
Oatmeal lovers, rejoice! Your favorite breakfast staple just got a major makeover thanks to OatMeals, a Greenwich Village bakery and café dishing out dressed-up versions of steel-cut oats.
The recently opened shop almost resembles your favorite fro-yo spot—minus the vintage oat cans lining the walls—with a fully stocked toppings bar. We’re talking dried and fresh fruit (we loved the cinnamon roasted apples), nuts and seeds, sweet stuff (think carob and chocolate chips and mini marshmallows), and some inventive savory selections including veggie bacon, cheddar cheese, and pesto. You can even choose from a variety of milk from skim to soy (or just plain water, if you prefer).
If all of the options seem overwhelming, feel free to try a signature creation (starting at $3.50) dreamed up by owner and pastry chef Samantha Stephens. We counted about 18 different combos including a fall-inspired Pumpkin Pie (with pumpkin puree, pecans, brown sugar, and pumpkin spice), a savory Canadian (with bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, roasted apples, and maple syrup), and an indulgent S’mores inspired treat with dark chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate drizzle.
You can round out your meal with a sandwich ($6.75) made on freshly baked oatmeal bread and, of course, some oatmeal cookies ($2).—AMANDA LIBBY
