WHAT: The Perfect Spot for Family Style Italian!
WHERE: LAVO
PRICES: Appetizers start at $14, entrees start at $19
Good Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen here in NYC, but finding a fashion-forward spot with an equally posh club below? Fuggedaboutit! Until LAVO entered the dining scene, that is. Similar to its sister restaurant TAO—located across the street—LAVO serves up large, family-style plates in a bustling, upbeat atmosphere. The digs channel a 19th century Italian bistro, with antique mirrors, reclaimed subway tiles, exposed brick, and red leather banquets. Once seated, you’ll be treated to garlic bread with warm marinara sauce, a pleasant change from the typical/not-worth-the-calories bread basket. But try to save room to sample classic, over-sized Italian dishes with a twist, like spaghetti with Kobe beef meatballs ($34), spinach and artichoke brick oven pizza ($21), and Filet Mignon topped with lobster ($50). For a side, the thick and crisp polenta fries with yellow cornmeal, spicy marinara, parmesan cheese can’t be beat, seriously ($10). The lighter options are equally flavorful; in fact we loved the Brick Oven Salmon Oreganato with seasoned breadcrumbs, lemon, and white wine ($26). For dessert? The double stuffed Oreo Zeppole ($10) is definitely worth trying, just make sure to share! If you want to dance off all that comfort food post dins, head downstairs to the Lavo Nightclub which boasts 2 bars, plush leather banquets surrounding a dance floor, and a small stage which Paris Hilton once danced atop while celebrating her birthday. Salud!
