Late night snacks… Sometimes there’s no better way to end a wild night of bar hopping. So if you find yourself needing a little post-party pick me up this weekend, we wanted to remind you about one of our favorite after-hour haunts: The Meatball Shop (with locations in the West Village, Brooklyn, and on the LES). Each eatery dishes out their famous treats (all priced under $10) until 4 am, along with a selection of international wines and beers on tap, just in case you want to keep the party going. Plus, you can find a list of ball jokes on the meatball mecca’s web site pre-visit to ensure some extra late-night entertainment. But we digress…
The specialty spot—which first opened on the LES in 2010—offers something for everyone (including vegetarians) with a mix-and-match menu. Customers can choose from 4 “naked balls” (beef, pork, chicken, or veggie) topped with one of five sauces ranging from classic tomato to pesto. If you’ve really worked up an appetite, can order your balls as sliders ($3 each), on a hero ($9), or smashed on a toasted brioche bun with mozzarella or provolone ($8). Plus, each order comes with a piece of freshly baked focaccia bread to slop up the extra sauce.
While waits can be as long as three hours during waking hours, it can be easier to snag a seat in the cozy eateries (all adorned with old-school hanging light-bulbs, long wooden tables, and white subway tiles) late-night. Of course, you can always beat the crowds and take the bites to go.—CHASE ROSEN
