It seems like everything Herve Van Der Straeten turns to gold (pun intended): he started out designing jewelry for YSL and Christian Lacroix and since then, he’s launched his own widely successful, eponymous furniture and jewelry line. (He also designed Dior’s J’Adore elegantly curved perfume bottle in 2005.) We got to meet the famed designer at NYC’s Saks Fifth Avenue this week, where he was debuting his Fall 2011 jewelry collection.
Most of the pieces are plated with 24 and 18-karat yellow gold, so the rich metals are actually lightweight and comfortable to wear. Many of the designs are inspired by geometric shapes, so you’ll find plenty of circular earrings and necklaces, as well as graphic cutout cuffs. “The pieces are perfect for day to night” Van Der Straeten told us. “You can wear a gold cuff by itself during the day, and stack it together with silver pieces for a dramatic look at night,” he said. One of our favorite pieces is the Wide Wrap Cuff (above). We were surprised to notice the bold, statement piece rings in under $500, making it a great gift for the holidays.
