Classy Comfort Food: Little Muenster’s Fancy Grilled Cheese SammiesLittle Muenster on the LES Specializes in Gourmet Grilled Cheese
In this cold weather, we’re craving some serious comfort food. And by serious comfort food, we mean a warm, crispy, grilled cheese sammie (perhaps with some caramelized onions, or sweet corn puree). If you’re looking for the perfect place to indulge in the classic treat, we highly recommend Little Muenster on the LES.
The chic little shop (opened by Adam Schneider and Vanessa Palazio this October) offers glammed up versions of grilled cheese with gourmet ingredients (think pear puree, sage brown butter, and butternut squash, to name a few). The menu offers 8 different sandwiches and daily specials (with vegan and gluten-free options as well). We love the classic white American singles with tomato and bacon ($7.25), as well as more inventive offerings including the Mexican-themed Oaxaca, corn puree, tomatillo and cotija sandwich ($9.25) which packs a serious, flavorful punch. Each dish comes with house seasoned chips and the option to add a succulent bone marrow butter for $1. In addition to the sandwich menu, Little Muenster also offers tomato and seasonal soups ($2.50-$4.50), a wedge salad ($5) and sweet treats including house made bread pudding ($2.75), and chocolate chip cookies ($1).
The space is small and quaint with white tables, bright yellow stools, and a bar counter-top. Reservations are not accepted, but they do offer delivery and take-out service if you can’t grab a table. The spot is open Tuesday and Wednesday until 10pm, Thursday until 11pm, Friday until 1am and Saturday until 4am. Talk about a perfect late night snack!—CHASE ROSENLittle Muenster| 100 Stanton Street| 212-203-7197
