Fancy a Swanye West? Head to RYU (Scott Disick’s Latest Venture)

Scott Disick Teams Up with Fatty Crab and Fatty Cue Owners to Launch Ryu in the Meatpacking District

From the folks who brought you the campy Malay destinations Fatty Crab and Fatty Cue comes RYU, an eatery that’s a tad more upscale and, oh yeah, it’s co-founded by reality TV star Scott Disick.

While the Meatpacking District spot hasn’t officially opened to the public just yet (we’ll keep you posted), it has been hosting private previews for a bevy of A-listers (read: the entire Kardashian Klan), including yours truly.

Of course, once the doors do open, you probably won’t spot Kim and kompany in the flesh but they are around in spirit. Upon my arrival some Kardashian-like clones gladly greeted me at the door, replete with charm and the trademark jet-black hair. (I secretly wondered if Disick personally casted the brunette bombshell hostess.)

The digs are similarly trendy, with painted wooden walls and sleek white lights, perfect for greeting any hungry Meatpacking socialite.  But enough about the decor.

Try the oysters swimming in a light spicy sauce, sure to give your taste buds a little kick on the back end. While the menu at RYU is Japanese, offerings like this is where the Fatty Crew indelibly leaves their stamp. Please get the ginjo sake and the hamachi on a little round of toast. It’s heaven. But perhaps avoid the lobster brushed with miso butter. A little overcooked. Wash it all down with a “SWANYE West,” a name that was surely dreamed up with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Normally I would roll my eyes at the prospect of going to a restaurant founded by any member of the Kardashian krew. But in this case I give Kourtney’s baby daddy props for smartly allying with a franchise whose food I LOVE.

Ultimately, perhaps Disick’s kitschiness is buried in the name.  RYU is the name of a character from a video game named Street Fighter.—JOYA DASS
