Between daily blow-drys, a slight addiction to curling irons, and regular color treatments, my hair can definitely use some TLC. (And I know I’m not alone!) So when my friends at Lucky invited me to test out John Frieda’s Full Repair line at his chic Meatpacking District salon, I jumped at the chance. The line is stocked with six products that are all infused with omega-3 and a non-greasy oil (called Inca Inchi) designed to repair damaged locks without weighing them down.

I met with stylist Elba Rodriguez (with flowing locks reminiscent of Sofia Vergara’s) who swears by the line. We headed back for a quick wash with the Full Body Shampoo and Conditioner (safe for color treated hair). Both products are designed to strengthen hair and gently detangle locks, to prevent breakage from combing and brushing. I have to say, mission accomplished. Rodriguez was able to comb through my thin tresses (which also have a few extensions thrown in for extra body) easily, without pulling or tugging. Next she applied the Root Lift Foam ($6.49), which is like a mousse but thinner and less sticky, to add some life to my usually limp locks.

Post blow-dry, Rodriguez whipped out a product that has easily become my latest addiction: the Full Repair Flyaway Tamer ($9.99). It looks exactly like a tube of mascara, and you simply run the wand over unruly strands for a completely polished look. The formula is clear and weightless in a container that can fit into the smallest clutch. While my hair looked voluminous and shiny after the pro blow-dry, I wondered if the bounce would last a second day. I’m happy to report that I woke up this morning without having to freshen up with dry shampoo, although I did smooth down some fly-a-ways with the Touch-Up Tamer (it’s my new best friend). All in all, the line does exactly what it promises: strengthens hair without leaving unwanted residue and weight. And since each product is under $10, the collection even provides your bank account with a little TLC.—AMANDA LIBBY
