Garden Party: Blue Ribbon Beer Garden Opens at The Thompson LESEnjoy Games, Brews and Grub at the LES’s Newest Beer Garden
Looking for a new outdoor drinking spot to celebrate summer? Head down to the Lower East Side, where sibling-restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg from Blue Ribbon Restaurant Group recently opened a beer garden on a second-floor patio of the chic Thompson Hotel.
Gather with friends at rows of communal tables, or keep it more intimate at tables for two or four. The casual, 60-seat western-facing space offers perfect views for happy hour sunsets or people watching on a laid back afternoon of day drinking, complete with a ping pong table and shelves filled with nostalgic board games. Colorful paper lanterns and strings of lights decorate the tent portion of the watering hole (with retractable side panels that have come in handy during recent afternoon showers), making it look like you’ve stepped into a suburban backyard party.
Enjoy a selection of local and foreign bottled and canned brews ($7 or $12) and carafes of house wine ($10). Once you work up an appetite, munch on plates of BBQ Cornish Hen, BBQ Ribs, and market veggies, served with sides of cornbread, coleslaw and bean salad ($15 each) or an assortment of snacks like boiled peanuts, smoked almonds and chocolate chip cookies for $3 each. We can’t think of a better addition to the LES.—CASSIE KREITNER
