Get Om Board with Yo Yoga’s Outdoor Rooftop ClassesYoYoga’s Refurbished Rooftop Offers $20 Classes for All Levels
Looking for a new place to unwind—and realign? For the last few weeks, we’ve been getting our fitness fix at Yo Yoga!, a two-year-old yoga studio in Midtown East, where the super-friendly staff and unpretentious environment are like a breath of fresh air—literally, as nearly half the daily classes are held on a serene and recently renovated third-story rooftop. Our first visit happened to coincide with the first 8:00pm class of the season, and we still love watching the sky transition from dusk to darkness as we move through the motions.
From May-October, you can count on the designated rooftop classes if the temperature is above 68 degrees and Mother Nature is cooperating. (If she’s not, classes are held in the calming indoor studio accessorized with paper lanterns white brick walls.) About 20 people can fit on the rooftop, where surrounding taller buildings and brick walls outfitted with twinkling Christmas lights and hanging potted plants muffle the sounds of the city streets.
The 60-minute classes are offered for $20 on a first-come, first-serve basis, with multiple package options, including a $30 7-day unlimited pass for a newcomer’s first week. There are seven classes to choose from, across a range of skill levels: Open, Basics, Yo Flow (Vinyasa), Power Yoga, Level 2/3, Candle Light and Ashtanga Flow. While towels aren’t provided, plenty of props are on hand, and mats and water bottles available for $2 each. —CASSIE KREITNER
