Max Brenner’s Sweet FaceliftThe popular Union Square chocolate bar received a renovation and new menu additions for its’ 7th birthday
There may be no better scent than the strong whiff of chocolate that greets you as you open the doors to Max Brenner. For the last seven years, locals and tourists alike have flocked to this chocolate-themed restaurant and emporium for delectable and sharable classics. But Max Brenner is getting better with age, and recently underwent a makeover, adding more seating at the bar seating and expanding the restaurant’s menu.
Executive Chef Katzie Guy-Hamilton (an Ace Hotel and Top Chef: Just Desserts vet) spearheaded the revamped menu’s development and innovation, adding new savory items like a Cheesesteak Waffle Sandwich and Pressed Cubano Waffle Sandwich, along with sweet dishes and drinks like Fried Dough (with chocolate chunks, toffee chocolate lice cream and milk chocolate ganache), a Coconut Cream Pie Milkshake and what is bound to be a new seasonal fave, the American Dream Apple Pie Hot Chocolate.
To get the full chocolate experience, it’s best to share a few of these dishes, and these newbies make great companions to the hot chocolate, milkshakes, martinis, pizza, crepes, classic European fondue, churros and nearly 25 other varieties of chocolate concoctions. It’s time to revisit this chocolate lover’s paradise. — CASSIE KREITNER
