Meatball Obsessed? Now You Can Get Your Fix On The GoMeatball Obsession is Open in Greenwich Village
Looking to get a perfect meatball fix? No need to brave the long lines at the Meatball Shop (anymore, that is). There’s a new spot in town dishing out gourmet, all-natural balls from the comfort of a sleek, little walk-up window.
It’s aptly named Meatball Obsession, a concept created by Daniel Mancini. But Mancini is no stranger to the meatball scene; in fact, he used his Grandmother’s recipe to create MamaMancini meatballs, which are sold in thousands of grocery stores nation-wide.
And now, thanks to Meatball Obsession’s arrival, you can get a taste of Mancini’s famed family recipe on the run. The shop offers 3 different kinds of meatballs (turkey, beef, and pork sausage), all served to-go. You can sprinkle the treats with artisanal toppings (on the house) including crispy pasta, shredded fontina, and freshly grated aged parmigiano-reggiano, to name a few, or try the unique “city style” toppings for an extra dollar. (If you’re feeling extra saucy.) Options include Venice (with Montasio cheese crisps, fresh herbs and olive oil), Genoa (made with fresh herbs, toasted pine-nuts, olive oil, and pecorino romano), and Parma (with crisp pancetta, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and fresh herbs) to name a few.
The meatballs are served in a cup or pocket sandwich, with Parmesan dipping sauce and Italian Ciabatta (specially baked to soak up the eatery’s signature Sunday Sauce). Portions range from a single ball ($4) to a triple serving (for $10).
If you’re really obsessed you can get a family pack dinner, stocked with extra Sunday Sauce, grated Locatelli Romano or Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, dipping bread and a box of imported Italian spaghetti.—AMANDA LIBBYMeatball Obsession| 510 6th Ave at 14th Street| 212-260-8646
