Michael White’s New Pizza Place Serves Up Gourmet Pies (Until 3 a.m.!)Nicoletta In The East Village Dishes Out Gourmet Pizzas Until 3 am
Calling all pizza lovers: Tired of the same old thin crust? Well East Coast foodies, it’s time to get a taste of the Midwest. From renowned chef (and Wisconsin native) Michael White comes Nicoletta, a not-so-typical pizza place located in the heart of the East Village. The recently opened spot—it officially welcomed diners last month—features ten unique pizzas on a thick (but not too thick) crust.
White, who has already made a lasting impression on Manhattan with restaurants including Osteria Morini and Marea, puts an interesting twist on the average pie with toppings including broccoli rabe pesto, fried eggplant, and Osteria Morini porchetta (to name a few). Perfect for vegetarians, the Fior di Zucca ($17) is baked with zucchini blossoms, grated yellow squash, and basil pesto. Or try the Patatona ($19), one of Nicoletta’s most popular dishes, topped with Yukon gold potatoes, Nueske’s bacon, caramelized onions, and crème fraiche. Of course, you can never go wrong with the Classica for $16, and feel free to choose your meats and veggies.
Round out your meal with crispy mortadella and mozzarella skewers ($6), a classic Nicoletta salad ($9), or mini veal meatballs (a house specialty) baked to perfection in a brick-oven ($10). While you won’t find a full service bar, the cozy space—it’s outfitted with exposed brick walls, clear acrylic chairs surrounding bright white tables, and an immaculate open kitchen—does offer plenty of beer and wine to pair with your Italian favorites.
Oh yeah, did we mention it’s open until 3 am? You know where we’ll be going for our next late night snack.—JENNIFER LEBOVITZNicoletta|160 2nd Ave (at 10th Street)| 212-432-1600
