New and Improved: Payard Returns to the UESFP Patisserie Opens on The Upper East Side
It’s official: Payard has finally made its return to the UES. On Thursday morning, Francois Payard opened the doors to FP Patisserie, located steps away from the original Payard Patisserie, which was shuttered in 2009.
And we must say, this little taste of France was well worth the wait. Upon entering the chic, yellow walled space, you’ll find gleaming glass cases stocked with pretty pastel macarons (think raspberry lychee, salted caramel, and passion fruit, to name a few), Parisian style pastries (we loved the Louvre, a chocolate mousse with salted caramel and roasted peanuts), ice cream, sorbet, and of course, neatly lined boxes of chocolate. Across the room, there’s a 14-seat onyx topped bar where you can sip lattes, tea, hot chocolate, and enjoy a croissant.
Further back, you’ll find an elegant tea salon and restaurant, outfitted with beige leather banquettes, modern acrylic chairs, and marble-topped tables. As for the menu, expect a selection of salads, croques monsieur (including a black truffle version with porcini mushrooms and organic greens), sandwiches, quiches, and some heavier fare (think braised beef short ribs).
Don’t forget a glass of bubbly on the side; there are plenty of champagnes and sparkling wines to choose from too (or wine and beer, if you prefer). On Sundays, you can stop by for brunch and enj0y 2 courses for $25, or 3 for $30. We’ll see you there.—AMANDA LIBBY
