WHAT: The Perfect Churros Shop
WHERE: La Churreria
PRICES: 3 for $3, 10 for $8, sandwiches start at $5
If churros served hot out of the fryer, dipped in rich, hot chocolate sound like a perfect winter treat to you, head straight to NoLita’s La Churreria, which officially opened on Monday. The Mulberry Street café, owned by Socarrat Paella Bar’s Jesus Manso (aka Lolo), dishes out delicious fried treats starting at $3 for three churros. Choose either the thin, classic versions of fried dough, or thicker flutes filled with hazelnut spread and chocolate. If you’re feeling particularly decadent, order the hot chocolate on the side to dip and/or sip. You can take the fritters to go in paper cones, or relax at one of the white, marble tables surrounded by black and white tiles that come straight from Toledo. And while the churros are the main draw at this authentically Spanish spot, you can round out your meal with pressed sammies (called bikinis), stuffed breakfast rolls, and baguette sandwiches stuffed with ingredients including chicken, ham, sausage, and chimichurri. Or, you can always head there for dessert after Socarrat, located right next door.—AMANDA LIBBY
