Roll Up: Sushi Samba Introduces Quinoa Temaki!Sushi Samba Introduces Quinoa Temaki Hand Rolls
It’s bathing suit season, and while sushi may seem like a healthy meal, many rolls can still pack a ton of carbs. But don’t ditch the chopsticks just yet.
Sushi Samba has come up with the perfect solution. The trendy eatery—with locations in the West Village and Gramercy—recently updated its sushi selection with quinoa temaki. Yes, that’s right, the Peruvian super food takes the place of rice in this new spin on sushi. Why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?
The new hand rolls, filled with quinoa and wrapped with rice paper, come three different ways: A sweet chili roll with tuna and scallion ($8); shrimp and shishito with cilantro, spicy mayo and red onion ($8); and Yasai (a veggie roll with avocado, snow pea shoot, sweet potato tempura, and sweet soy for $7). If you are more of a sushi traditionalist, you can get spicy tuna or eel and avocado with quinoa instead of rice.
Quinoa, of course, is a vitamin-rich grain that is also an excellent source of protein. It’s also gluten free, perfect for sushi lovers with dietary restraints.—MICHELLE WON
