Salon Ruggeri Makes You Feel Right at HomeSalon Ruggeri in Murray Hill Channels A Luxe Living Room
We get it. Sometimes your weekly hair appointments can seem more like a cattle call and less like an escape, between countless rows of salon chairs and overbooked stylists. So if you’re craving something a bit more intimate, it’s time to pencil in a trip to Salon Ruggeri. Tucked inside a beautiful brownstone in Murray Hill, this chandelier and art-clad location will make you feel right at home. (In fact, owner and head stylist Greg Rugerri lives right downstairs with his interior-design partner, Craig Longhurst, who created the luxe space.)
Inside the four-chair salon, you’ll find two charming Australian pros working their magic: Ruggeri, of course, and his fellow stylist Cassie Harwood. And although the small space tends to book up fast, I was able to nab a blowout with Harwood that, for lack of a better word, blew me away.
The service began with a double wash (to lengthen the life of a blowout) using all-natural Evo products from Australia. Next, I was led to a plush leather chair facing a sleek, floor to ceiling mirror, surrounded by vintage furniture and antiques. Each hair station is immaculate, and tools are hidden away in pretty cabinets to enhance the relaxing and refreshingly un-salon like aesthetic.
As Harwood worked, she gave me plenty of hair care advice (including the benefits of using a blow drier after applying dry shampoo) and insisted that I get bangs for a dramatic, on-trend fall look. The end result? My hair looked like a million bucks and felt hydrated and healthy. Needless to say, I’ll be coming back for a cut (with bangs!) very soon.—CHASE ROSEN
