Good news cheese lovers: Murray’s Cheese, New York’s most famed fromagerie, has added a sit-down resto to its dairy enterprise. Meet Murray’s Cheese Bar, located just a few doors down from the brand’s flagship store on Bleecker Street. The cute new eatery—it came to Greenwich Village in July—features over 100 types of the savory snack from all over the world, along with cured meats, pasta dishes, salads, sandwiches and daily specials.
When you’re seated in one of the bright red chairs at an adorable marble table, feel free to ask your server, or “cheese-monger,” questions about the menu. Whether you like creamy cheese, stinky cheese or are a complete cheese-virgin, he or she will be able to steer you in the right direction. Can’t decide what to get? No problem. Murray’s offers flights with three or five mixed cheeses starting at $12.
You can order the salty staples fried, spread, between the bread, or from the griddle. While there are plenty of innovative offerings (read: butternut squash kugel with cottage cheese), you can also find a number of traditional favorites. We loved the mac and cheese ($12) with cheddar, aged Gruyere, and mozzarella, “Fondue Straight Up” (starting at $14 for two people), and Murray’s Classic Melt with a side of smoky tomato soup ($12). Don’t forget to wash it down with wine or craft beer (the spot pours out 200 different varieties!). Who knew being cheesy could look so good?—CHASE ROSEN
