Sushi Masaru: Where Bond St. Meets ChelseaSushi Masaru Opens in Chelsea
What happens when a former Bond St. chef (Henry Yang) and Sushi Samba chef (Kenji Zenshosushi) join forces? Enter Sushi Masaru, Chelsea’s newest Japanese hotspot, where the fish is flow in daily from Hawaii and Tokyo’s Stukiji Market.
The comprehensive sushi menu offers everything from soft shell crab rolls ($10), to Kobe beef and shitake rolls ($18), and fabulously fresh king crab California rolls ($10). We also loved the signature Chelsea rainbow roll ($15), made with crispy pieces of shrimp tempura topped with chopped tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and tobiko. Omakases menus are also available, starting at $50. You can sample the selection at a sleek granite and oak trimmed sushi bar, or relax at a dark leather booth surrounded by pretty lavender and grey accents.
As for the mains, you can’t go wrong with the red snapper with spinach and a black bean sauce ($22), or the Wagyu steak with shishito peppers in a red wine sauce ($35). And don’t forget to wash it down with a cherry blossom margarita ($12) or lychee martini ($12).—AMANDA LIBBY
