Tea Time: DavidsTea Comes To NYC Just in Time for Winter!

Canadian-based Loose Tea Shop, DavidsTea, Comes to the Upper East Side and the West Village

Since our caffeine routine could use a tad more variety (and we know we’re not alone) we were happy to hear DavidsTea, a popular Canadian based loose-tea shop, opened up two NYC locales just in time for the cold weather season. (The first outpost came to the UES in early November, while the West Village spot launched on Thanksgiving.) Both calming spaces are adorned with sleek, natural wood counters and cool blue walls, but the main draw, of course, is the extensive selection of white, black, green, oolong, herbal and rooibos teas. Other varieties include pu’erh, a Chinese tea used to control weight and lower cholesterol and maté tea, made with a South American super-herb that boasts a sweet and toasty flavor (we loved the mint chocolate cup for $6).

The flavors (we counted over one hundred) are clearly labeled on colorful canisters displayed in front of chic, white brick walls. Tea newbies may be overwhelmed by the large selection, but the friendly staff is happy to help. In fact, when we ordered our organic green jasmine tea a helpful sales associate asked, “have you smelled it yet?” We hadn’t, so we took a whiff and were sold. Each blend can be served iced or hot, and they offer sweeteners including agave. While there are tons of organic and detoxifying offerings, there are a few exotic cups worth mentioning as well. “Movie Night” ($6.50) blends green tea with apple pieces and real popcorn, “Carrot Cake” ($7.50) serves as a calorie free dessert with a spicy and fruity mix of apples, carrots, and coconut, and “Chocolate Rocket” has hints of chocolate, almonds, and raspberries ($7).  And let’s be serious, this Holiday season we can definitely use a warm and guilt-free treat.
