Whether you’re looking for a casual dinner or find yourself needing a late night snack on the LES—we’ve all been there—Mathieu Palombino’s retro new Bowery Diner (which opened on Sunday) is definitely worth a visit. While the 50’s inspired digs dish out traditional diner fare including Reubens (made with pastrami smoked in house), cheeseburgers, dogs, and mac and cheese, the spot is not to be confused with your typical diner. The European restaurateur, who also owns Motorino, has beefed up a classic comfort food menu with gourmet dishes including Duck Confit with curly fries and greens, burgers topped with Bearnaise sauce ($15), steak tartar ($12) and a full raw bar. For dessert, you can enjoy traditional homemade treats (we loved the cherry pie) and shakes spiked with bourbon. Right now Bowery Diner is only serving dinner and late night (it also boasts a full bar), but we’re anxiously awaiting the spot’s breakfast and lunch menu. We’ll keep you posted!—AMANDA LIBBY
