Top Chef’s Hung Huynh Makes a Splash in the MPD

Top Chef winner Hung Huynh dishes out contemporary seafood in chic digs at Catch

Nightlife gurus Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum (behind lauded spots Abe and Arthurs, SL and Tenjune) are reeling in diners again with their newest haunt Catch. This time around, they have teamed up with Top Chef  winner Hung Huynh to offer contemporary seafood (think sole with scallop mousseline and caviar sauce, macaroni and lobster cream, and spicy tuna two ways) in an equally innovative and chic spot which officially opened on September 29th.

The menu features both Asian and Mediterranean flavors, including everything from delicious flat breads (starting at $13) to sushi (we loved the grace roll for $15 with salmon, hamachi and tune in a cucumber wrap). Entrees include crispy chicken ($26) with roasted roots, lobster (steamed, crab stuffed, or Cantonese) and simply cooked salmon, tuna, or shrimp with your choice of sauce.

Diners enter the tri-level digs (located across from the Gansevoort Hotel) by taking an elevator to the building’s second floor, giving the eatery an exclusive feel (no surprise there, considering the owners). The space features two main dining rooms with exposed brick walls, natural wood tables, and turquoise chairs that add a fun pop of color. Upstairs, you’ll find an enclosed rooftop lounge where a DJ spins late into the night. Although the spot is large enough to seat 275 diners, if Abe and Arthurs is any indication, you may want to make a res now. —AMANDA LIBBY
