You’ve probably already heard of hair guru Valery Joseph. The stylist opened his first Upper East Side salon in 2002, and since then has been catering to a bevy of A-listers (we’re talking the likes of Lady Gaga, Ivanka Trump, and Anna Wintour to name a few). And as you can imagine, treating your coif to one of his famed hair services usually comes with a similarly high-end price tag to match (think $100 for a blow dry). But thanks to Joseph’s newest outpost, VJ Blow Bar Express, you can refresh your locks with a quick dry at a more reasonable rate.
The recently opened blow dry bar—it came to 3rd Avenue earlier this month—offers quick services starting at $35 for a basic dry, up to $65 should you require a curling iron. Loose waves and sleek and straight styles created with a flat iron run about $45. Need a mani or pedi while a stylist works on your mane? No problem! The spot also offers polish changes for $10, manicures for $15, and pedicures for $30.
You can call ahead to make an appointment, or simply walk-in. After helping yourself to some ice tea or lemonade (and maybe some old-fashioned candy) a friendly stylist will lead you to a black leather chair surrounded by lilac walls, oversized baroque mirrors, and crystal chandeliers. In about an hour, you’ll be on your way with a perfectly crafted ‘do.
Right now hair services are limited to blow drys, but the salon plans to offer coloring and cuts on a second floor next month.—AMANDA LIBBY
